Monterey High School Science Innovation Center
Cornerstone provided the PS&E package for the Monterey High School Science Innovation Center. The 11,000 square foot 2-story steel braced frame building is buried into the hillside with retaining walls on two sides of the building creating the lower classroom level. The building is fenestrated with large storefront windows in the classrooms as well as full height windows at the lobby entrance. The second floor suspends over a fire truck emergency access lane and is supported from steel beams and hanger posts from the roof framing. The building is composed of concrete over metal decks at the second floor with metal deck roofs. Decks are supported by steel framing and lateral forces are resisted by a braced frame system.
