SIMS Metal Site Improvement
Cornerstone was initially contracted to provide foundations on a soft soil site for multiple building and manufacturing structures. Cornerstone provided the scope of work documents for the geotechnical engineer and was subsequently asked to assist in coordinating plan check approval for prefabricated metal building components.
In looking over the plans, Cornerstone discovered that the contractors had used incorrect codes and seismic designs for all of the project elements. Cornerstone was then asked to perform a detailed seismic analysis and work with the suppliers to retrofit the purchased elements and to take the lead in expediting the plan check process.
Ultimately Cornerstone prepared construction documents, record drawings, and provide extensive construction support services in the form of detailed bi-weekly structural observations. Services provided included engineering for foundations, seismic and production stability for conveyor systems, stormwater pond, retaining walls, mezzanine, and intermediate processing levels, shredders, crushers, loading and storage areas, stairs, and components that linked output directly to deep water shipping.
