OAKLAND, CA

401 Fairmont

This project included a seismic upgrade of a 1960’s era multistory, multi-family wood-framed apartment building on a sloping site in Oakland. This project followed a structural review and seismic risk assessment to produce a brief report that summarizes the general structural adequacy of the building vertical and lateral systems. The design included new structural steel beams and columns to strengthen soft-story deficiencies for the existing lateral system. The project included various elevator and stair upgrades as well as a voluntary seismic retrofit and replacement of water-damaged and dry-rotted elements.
