Cambrian Center Senior Apartments

San Jose, CA

Cornerstone was responsible for providing a voluntary seismic retrofit and modernization for the existing seven-story cast-in-place concrete and single-story wood-framed apartment buildings located at the Cambrian Center in San Jose. New full-height concrete shear walls and foundations were added to improve the seismic performance of the building. As part of the modernization aspect of the project, all units were remodeled and upgraded. A new entry canopy was added to create a much needed focal point and entry sign for the entrance to the building. The main courtyard was redesigned to connect the two buildings together and create a centralized hang-out area for the residents which included new seating benches, barbecue area, and tables. A new structural steel butterfly-shaped canopy was designed with translucent panels to provide protection from the weather while allowing sunlight to come in. New walking pathways throughout the site were also incorporated into the project with similar monosloping canopies to mimic the design of the courtyard canopy and carry the overall project aesthetics throughout the site.
