Sylvester Greenwood Academy Leadership Public Schools

Richmond, CA

Cornerstone provided the construction documents for the design of two new high school campuses with a shared but separate athletic facility. Both high school structures are multi-story structural steel buildings with a structural masonry and structural steel athletic facility shared between the two. This slightly sloping site captures an entire city block in an urban setting.

Due to a $1.6B Bond Program the West Contra Costa USD was able to invest $56.6M into two schools onto an urban site. The resulting design yielded an approximately 36,000 square foot two-story structural steel framed building for the Sylvester Greenwood Academy, an approximately 67,000 sf three-story structural steel framed building for Leadership Public School, and an approximately 24,000 sf shared Gymnasium/Dance Studio/Healthcare Facility. All three buildings utilize lightweight concrete topping over corrugated metal decking for floor systems, with special concentric braced frames for the seismic lateral system. The first floors all feature cast-in-place concrete security panels or entry portals to provide a durable entry experience.
