When the County of Monterey required a replacement of the Start/Finish Bridge at the internationally known WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, they turned to Cornerstone Structural Engineering Group to deliver the design of a new bridge and approaches. The project includes replacement of the previous two span timber truss bridge with a new clear span steel truss bridge, an approach bridge, a new Starter Stand, and several hundred feet of Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) and conventional Cast-In-Place (CIP) retaining walls. In order to meet requirements of contracts that required a new Start/Finish Bridge, the County of Monterey, in partnership with the Paul Davis Partnership and Whitson Engineers and Cornerstone Structural Engineering Group completed design of this project in only four months starting from initial design to delivery of final Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E).

The project has won numerous awards including a 2025 ACEC California Merit Award, a 2024 ASCE San Francisco Section Award, and an APWA California Central Coast Chapter Award.
