Cornerstone was retained by the County of Madera to design a replacement for the existing bridge which has been closed to the public since 2014. The existing bridge was closed following a structural failure of the superstructure believed to have been caused by an overload from a heavy piece of agricultural equipment being transported across the structure. The existing bridge was constructed in 1946 and consists of a three-span simply supported timber girder bridge with timber plank deck and asphalt concrete overlay. The replacement bridge consists of a two span conventionally reinforced slab bridge measuring roughly 70 feet in length supported on 24 inch diameter pile extensions and cast-in-drilled hole concrete piles.
